Einstürzende Neubauten, Sonic Youth, Psychic TV / Throbbing Gristle artists together in a collection of twelve dreams interpreted as songs.
Exhibition Of A Dream’ consists of twelve dreams of musicians, artists and filmmakers, interpreted by FM Einheit (formerly of Einstürzende Neubauten) and told by the likes of Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (Psychic TV / Throbbing Gristle), Susan Stenger (Band Of Susans), milie Pitoiset, Erika Stucky and the Gubenkian Choir.
Exploded in time, the songs are played as temporary and evolving patterns of shapes and forms in an otherwise empty gallery following the drawings of mandalas. The songs, ranging from four to fifteen minutes, take their time to evolve and highlight the complex beauty of how to generate a dream in the mind of the spectator. A shared experience to be lived within our own personal inner space, these dreams are an invitation to listen to a sensitive architecture of words and music.
Every piece was created in 2017 and recorded both in public in the amphitheaters and the garden of the Fondation Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon, as well as in private at Einheit's own studio, Steinschlag. The full list of dreamers was: Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Lee Ranaldo, …milie Pitoiset, Susan Stenger, Susie Green, David Link, Pierre Paulin, Alexandre Estrela, Tim Etchells, Gabriel Abrantes, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and FM Einheit himself.
Although classified as a reissue, ‘Exhibition Of A Dream’ was originally released as a 3xLP set and was only made available for the duration of the exhibition at the Foundation, which ran from October-December 2017, becoming a rare and sought for album. This fully remastered 2xCD reissue on Cold Spring is presented in a 6-panel matt-laminate double digipak.
